Another week of warm weather and it showed with all the butterflies that are still around especially the Whites (Large, Small and Green veined), along with Meadow Brown’s, Ringlets, Peacocks, Small Tortoiseshell which were also in good supply, with Speckled Wood, Gatekeeper and Small Skipper in smaller numbers, double figures again. On the moth front a single Silver Y Moth was found, along with a lot of Macro moths.
Dragonflies and Damselflies however again none showing this week, hoverflies again in short supply with the usual Eristalis pertinax, Marmalde Hoverfly [Episyrphus batteatus] and the Long Hoverfly [Sphaerophhus scripta] being the common ones.
Common Green Grasshoppers can be found at the moment along with a few Plant Bugs, Cinnabar Moth Caterpillars can be seen on the ragwort and the Golden bloomed Grey Longhorn Beetle showed well again this week
On the bird front plenty of Blackbirds, Jay and a Chiffchaff heard, the Swallows have now fledged with a good brood of 5 leaving the nest, all now have to make the long journey next month to South Africa
Thick legged Hoverfly
