Week 34

Bit more of a bird week this week due to the low temps from the  northerly blast we’ve not been enjoying for August. So we’ve been seeing GoldfinchDunnock, Robin, Great Tit, Long tailed Tit, Blue Tit all around the bird feeder along with a few young birds, Nuthatch has been heard calling, and the “yaffle” call of the Green Woodpecker, the Swallows appear now to be absent, I hope they enjoy the winter because due to netting going up to deter them from nesting again I don’t think we will be enjoying these birds next year…another site lost, however the other summer visitor the Chiffchaff is still about.

A few butterflies still about mainly Gatekeeper and Green veined White with an odd Meadow Brown

A couple of hoverflies this week Epistrophe grossulariae with Episyrphus balteatus and Helophilus pendulus new for the year
