The week started with a fine Common Buzzard drifting over the works heading towards the large wood nearby, the weather was good all week but the insects seemed to be staying out of sight,. Around the feeder this week we could find Robin, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Nuthatch, Magpie, Crow, Dunnock, Blackbird and Goldcrest, (the Blue and Great Tit are going thru moult at the moment especially on the head) and Bullfinch was heard . In the woods Chiffchaff and Blackcap are still singing strong, the Swallows are still around but are quiet which makes me wonder if the nest has failed or they are on eggs. We have also had a good movement of Swift and House Martins in the middle of the week. Insects this week has been very quiet with no large Hoverflies of note, Moths have been represented by Yellow Barred Longhorn only with high numbers on the Tuesday going into the 40’s. Butterflies have been poor with single numbers of Green veined White and Speckled Wood, this week, but the start of the flight period for Meadow Brown with one seen on Thursday and Large Skipper two being seen at the end of the week is under way.
