A very mixed week with rain/drizzle dominating the second half of the week but I did manage to get a couple of surprises thrown in
The birds Swallows are always on site and are busy around the nest site. Thursday however whilst we had a drizzle spell over dinner break, this always brings down the Martins and Swallows, I decided to look thru them as the feed over the tree tops, I had binoculars with me this time, all four species were present Swallows, Swifts, House Martins, and a new species Sand Martins (takes the bird species list now to 63)
Goldcrest was eventually seen this week after flying thru the bird-table area, other birds around here were Nuthatch, Great spotted Woodpecker, Dunnock, Robin, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Chaffinch, Bullfinch was heard as also were Blackcap and Chiffchaff.
Fly thru birds this week included Kestrel and a Dipper, Pied Wagtail was common this week seen on roofs, car park and the nearby field.
Butterflies this week were in short supply dominating only the first half of the week..Orange-tip and Green veined Whites being the common ones with Speckled Wood in support, a Small tortoiseshell late thursday dinner break was a brief sighting.
I also disturb this week, whilst walking thru the long grass, a Moth species, a Common Carpet Moth.
Nice also to see this week a Tipula maxima (Crane Fly uk largest)
