Butterflies/Moths

I’ll included Moths on this page as well, most butterflies seen on site are Grassland species  with 20 species seen to date these include Meadow Brown, Ringlet, Large Skipper, Small Skipper, Small Copper and with Speckled Wood, Small Tortoiseshell in most years.  The latest find was a White letter Hairstreak found around one of the thistle patch’s’. I also record this area for the Yorkshire Butterfly Society.

Moths, I have ID 33 species but we do have a large number of micro moths which are not easy to ID and in some cases have to be caught and dissected to ID them…so highlights have been Silver ‘Y’, Swallow Tailed Moth. Cinnabar Moth and Common Footman
